10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Jack Colback

6. He Was The Last NUFC Player To Score In A Tyne-Wear Derby At St James' Park

Three years and two Tyne-Wear derbies have passed since Shola Ameobi bundled home the equaliser to rescue a point for Newcastle in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at St James' Park. It still stands as our last goal on home turf against the Mackems. We've hosted them twice since and on each occasion have failed to breach our Wearside neighbours, who helped themselves to three goals apiece in both contests. In our most recent clash at the beginning of February the final blow of Sunderland's latest three-goal rout on Tyneside was delivered by none other than Colback in the Red and White stripes. And, in an admittedly clever play on words, it makes him the last Newcastle player to have scored in a derby fixture between Tyne and Wear. But as he peeled away to celebrate after drilling the ball into the roof of the Gallowgate net, Colback flippantly shushed the baying Magpies crowd who had heckled his every touch despite being a Newcastle fan himself. It is that celebration which has provoked antipathy from Toon fans towards our decision to sign the Killingworth-born midfielder and leaves him with much to do if he is to be accepted in Black and White.
