10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Portland Timbers 2

4. Timbers 2's Manager Was A Very Successful College Coach

Jay Vildovich is the man tasked with managing the Timbers during their debut USL Pro season and the former college "soccer" defender/midfielder represented Indiana University and Ohio Wesleyan during his playing days. After stints as an assistant at Denver University, Regis College, Wesleyan and Wake Forest after retiring from playing, Vidovich then stepped up to become a head coach. Manager of Wake Forest between 1994 and 2014, Vildovich built up a reputation as one of the best coaches in the college system - claiming an impressive 225 victories from 343 games in charge. He also won the NCAA Championship title with the college in 2007, but he now must try and get the best out of the Timbers' reserve team.
