10 Things Steven Gerrard Wants Liverpool Fans To Forget

3. He Once Really, Really Wanted To Leave Liverpool

Mere weeks after winning the Champions League, Liverpool fans awoke to one of the most shocking club statements in their history. "Steven Gerrard has told us he will not accept our offer of an improved and extended contract because he wants to leave". Following the rejection of Chelsea's £32 million bid, their captain took matters into his own hands to try and engineer a move to the newly crowned Premier League champions. The move shocked the club's supporters and fans were seen burning their Gerrard shirts in totally-not-orchestrated-for-TV scenes on the news. The player said he wanted to go, the club said he was on his way, and the deal looked to be virtually done. After some squabbling in the press Gerrard had an 11th hour change of heart, signed a new contract, and stayed on Merseyside for another decade. Missing out on (at least) a Premier League title, four FA Cups, a Champion's League, a Europa League, and a League Cup.
