Described as a tactical switch from van Gaal, when Bastian Schweinsteiger came on at half-time for Michael Carrick he looked a little nervous. However this didn’t last long as again he commanded the game and looked every bit like a World Cup winner.

With Carrick not starting the season particularly well, it is only a matter of time before Basti is starting alongside Morgan Schneiderlin or Ander Herrera. If he can stay fit, Schweinsteiger looks like a very shrewd purchase indeed, just what United have lacked since Roy Keane left all that time ago.
