10 Things We Learned From Newcastle Vs Southampton

6. McClaren Will Run A Marathon During EVERY Newcastle Game This Season

He was up, he was down, he was up and then he was down again. Steve McClaren started the game from a vantage point high into the Milburn Stand, using a telephone to get his message down to Paul Simpson on the touchline. It's obvious to see why he does that as sitting high in a stand gives you a much better view of what's happening on the pitch. But seeing the former England manager head down and then up the hundreds of stairs on more than one occasion seemed to render the tactic a little bit pointless. What's the point in him having a phone? Maybe he simply doesn't trust Simpson with getting the message across to the players.
