4. Melvin Guillard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqrVT6YyM0M I was struggling to position Melvin in this list, but ultimately decided the #4 spot was the ideal one for the American lightweight. Like a 155lbs Randleman, Guillard is known for his supreme athleticism. He has compiled a 11-8 record in the UFC which is hardly disgraceful as he is competing in one of the most stacked divisions. Though this is not why he is placed at #4 in the list, there are many other, more justified reasons. Firstly, Guillard's cockiness. The Young Assassin was brimming with confidence coming into his bout with Joe Lauzon, and justifiably so - MG had won his last 5 fights coming into the Lauzon match-up and was on the verge of a title shot with a win over J-Lau. However, this confidence proved to be the reason for ultimately losing a fight which he was expecting to win. Coming out in a very energetic and unconcerned manner, Guillard got caught by a Lauzon hook which dropped him and J-Lau managed to finish the Louisiana native on the ground. The second reason for his spot on this list is his decision making. Guillard decided that after winning 5 of his last 6, he would leave Jackson's MMA after the loss to J-Lau and join Blackzillians. This decision proved fatal. Since this decision, Guillard lost three of his next four fights (which is four of his last five including the Lauzon loss) and he is well and truly on the cusp of getting cut. Luckily for MG, the UFC decided not to send him packing, instead giving him a do-or-die fight against Mac Danzig, and Guillard has once again decided to find another camp to train at. From title shot hopeful to chopping block in just 14 months, Guillard needs to pick up his feet again or his long tenure in the UFC will come to an end.
