There is a myth established in the modern game that big teams require wholesale changes when appointing a new manager going in a new direction. The reality is the top teams are built up with quality players when theyre available over a period of time. Zabaleta and Kompany were signed by Mark Hughes, Toure and Aguero by Mancini and finally Negredo and Demichelis by Pellegrini. Man Utd wont sign for the sake of it, but they will dump the dead wood this summer. Getting rid of players will free up space for youngsters to develop - a club, fan and Van Gaal priority. Expect Nani and Anderson to be the first to be shown the door, followed by Ashley Young and the Machedas and Bebes. Following this players will be questioned and scrutinised to root out the weak links - with question marks over the future of Buttner, Rafael, Hernandez, Kagawa, Cleverley, Welbeck and Fellaini. Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson showed at the end of the season that there is talent in the youth of the team and fans may find relief more in the players that are moved on than brought in.
