3. Roy Carroll's Goal Line "Save", 2005
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xowj6Qx78so Tottenham don't have the best record in the world against Manchester United, and so on the face of it, their 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in 2005 appeared to be a massive point. However, they should have taken home a full share of the spoils after Mark Clattenburg (who else) failed to spot Pedro Mendes's half-way line effort cross the line. United goalkeeper Roy Carroll had raced out of position to clear the ball and, spotting the keeper retreating back to his goal, Mendes let loose a speculative shot from way out in an attempt to catch Carroll cold - and he did. The shot-stopper backpeddled back to his line as Mendes's effort sailed over his head. He jumped in an attempt to catch it but made a real hash of the situation as the ball squirmed out of his grasp and into the net - but not before Carroll was able to claw it away. Clattenburg and his officials thought Carroll had rescued the situation and had made a save, but replays clearly showed the ball crossing the line. Tottenham were thus denied their first win at Old Trafford since 1989 and, eight years later, goal-line technology was introduced to the Premier League in an attempt to eradicate future incidents.
