10 Worst Newcastle Performances This Decade

9. Newcastle 0-3 Sunderland, 2013

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrz8Q0KOi2Q It was a pitiful performance and an even worse scoreline, which will be etched into the history books, permanently scarring Alan Pardew€™s time at the club. Losing at home to Sunderland is simply unacceptable, and especially in the manner that Newcastle knelt down and surrendered the three points to their arch-rivals in April 2013. Sunderland€™s last win at St. James€™ Park had been but a hazy and distant memory from 13 years earlier, so nobody was expecting Paolo di Canio€™s relegation-threatened side to stride into Tyneside and leave with three points. With Jonas Gutierrez having surrendered possession after 27 minutes, Sunderland capitalised and surged forward, allowing forward Stephane Sessegnon to dispatch a fine drive into the bottom corner to stun the home support. Papiss Cisse had the ball in the net for the home side in the second half but the linesman€™s offside flag halted celebrations. Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul had to be replaced due to injury, and his deputy Rob Elliot was on hand to see Adam Johnson and David Vaughan dispatch two long-range efforts past him during the final 15 minutes to strike the final nails into the Tyneside coffin. Derby games are supposed to be full of intensity, gumption and heart. Newcastle United displayed none of these qualities on that spring afternoon in 2013, as they meekly allowed their arch-rivals to embarrass them on their own turf.
