10 Youth Prospects Who Could Change Arsenal's Future
8. Damian Martinez
Martinez has managed to establish himself as a highly talented goalkeeper over the last two seasons and has even received international recognition by Argentina at Under-20 level, although he hasn't yet claimed his senior international debut. The 21-year-old joined Arsenal's Academy back in 2010 and quickly found himself thrust into the first-team squad at the Emirates Stadium. Unable to stake a claim for the no.1 jersey and wanting him to gain first team experience, Wenger sent him out complete a loan spell with League Two side Oxford towards the end of the 2011/12 season, where he disappointingly made just the one solitary start. Martinez returned and enjoyed two Capital One Cup outings for Arsenal last term, first appearing in a 6-1 rout of Coventry and then in the memorable 7-5 victory over Reading at the Madejski Stadium. He finished the season with a loan to Sheffield Wednesday, where he picked up eleven appearances. Martinez is definitely a talent to keep an eye on, he will likely be pushing for a starting spot in the next couple of years even with the added competition of David Ospina.
