A rare player, was Gary Doherty. He could play at centre half or up front. Unfortunately, he was equally underwhelming in either position. Picked up for £1 million from Luton Town (a deal instigated by Spurs Director of Football and former Luton manager, David Pleat), Doherty enjoyed flashes of decent form for Spurs, but the glaring deficiencies in his game ensures his place in this team. His poor positional play and awareness, allied with his lack of pace and the turning circle of a P&O ferry, meant he was destined for a career away from the Lane and sure enough, a move to Norwich materialised.
