12 Newcastle Players Who Returned For A Second Spell On Tyneside
12. Peter Beardsley
First Spell (1983-87): League Appearances: 147 League Goals: 61 Second Spell (1993-97): League Appearances: 129 League Goals: 47 Capped 59 times by England, Hexham-born Beardsley is one of the finest players ever to come from the North East. The incredibly-talented forward scored 47 goals in 129 Premier League appearances for Newcastle and he was one of the stars of Kevin Keegan's Entertainers side - and that was only just during his second spell. Having started his career at Carlisle United, Beardsley twice moved to Vancouver Whitecaps, as well as Manchester United, before he signed for his boyhood club in 1983. A return of 61 goals from 147 league appearances between 1983 and 1987 was impressive enough, but the fact he added another 47 later in his career shows he was right to return in 1993 after spells at Liverpool and Everton. Only 5ft 8in tall, Beardsley was a supremely-talented footballer who wowed Toon supporters - as well as the fans of every single other club he played for. Since 2001, Beardsley has operated as Newcastle's reserve-team coach, as well as John Carver's assistant.
