12 Newcastle Players Who Returned For A Second Spell On Tyneside

11. Kevin Keegan - "The Second Coming"

First Spell (As A Player, 1982-84): League Appearances: 78 League Goals: 48 Second Spell (As Manager, 1992-97): Games Managed: 251 Wins: 138 Raised as a Newcastle fan due to his father's allegiance to the Magpies, Doncaster-born Keegan played for Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburger SV and Southampton before he finally became a Magpie in 1982. After netting an impressive 48 goals in 78 league games, Keegan then moved to Blacktown City before retiring in 1985 - but just seven years later the 63-cap England international was back on Tyneside, this time as manager. With the Magpies struggling at the bottom of the old Second Division, John Hall orchestrated "the Second Coming" of "King Kev" - and what a brilliant decision that proved to be. As well as avoiding relegation in his first season, Keegan then led Newcastle to promotion the year after, before his "Entertainers" side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title during the 1995-96 season. During 251 matches in charge, Keegan claimed 138 victories as Toon boss - and became one of the best-loved managers in the club's history.
