12 Newcastle Players Who Returned For A Second Spell On Tyneside

7. Lee Clark

First Spell (1990-97): League Appearances: 195 League Goals: 23 Second Spell (2005-06): League Appearances: 22 League Goals: 1 Never has a person sounded so Geordie in TV interviews - and Lee Clark remains as broad now as he was when he was playing for Kevin Keegan's "Entertainers" during the 1990s. The Wallsend-born midfielder made 195 league appearances, scoring 23 goals, for his hometown club between 1990 and 1997 before moving to their bitter rivals Sunderland after falling out of favour under Kenny Dalglish. A battling midfielder, he was already adored by the Toon faithful but the photograph of Clark in a "Sad Mackem B*st*rds" top really endeared him to Magpies supporters - and that facilitated a move to Fulham in 1999. After captaining the Cottagers back into the top flight, Clark then returned to Newcastle on a free transfer in 2005 - where he made a further 22 league appearances and scored one more goal for the club. His second spell was certainly not as glorious or fun as his first with the Entertainers, but Clark still made a reasonable contribution to the Magpies during the 2005-06 season.
