12 Newcastle Successes (And 12 Failures) Scouted By Graham Carr

7. Loic Remy

Signed: 2013 (from Queens Park Rangers) Transfer Fee: £2 million Loan Fee Position: Forward Newcastle United Appearances: 27 (2013-14) Newcastle United Goals: 14 Current Club: Chelsea
A one-season wonder at Newcastle United - but that's because Loic Remy was only at the Toon on loan for the 2013-14 campaign, and then the club wouldn't stump up the cash to make his signing permanent the following summer. Remy's return of 14 goals from 27 appearances was magnificent considering he was in an abject Magpies side who were riding high by Christmas solely due to his goals - and then Newcastle tailed off horrendously after January. Although Remy's signing was an undoubted success, once again he was a player who was a France international and had been at Marseille for three years, having previously represented Lyon, so he was well known in Ligue 1. What's more, Remy had already played - and scored - for Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League before Newcastle acquired his services, so it didn't take a genius to work out he could be a bargain loan signing.
