12 Reasons Floyd Mayweather Will Defeat Manny Pacquiao
5. Mayweather Is The Southpaw Killer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl8ay8ld9lsOver the years, there has been talk of Floyd Mayweather’s difficulty against southpaws – Opponents who lead with the right hand, keeping their left back for power punches.
Manny Pacquiao’s preferred stance is believed to be a key piece in creating the belief that he can win.
This thought process is easily debunked considering that Mayweather is not only 8-0 against southpaws, but four of those victories came by way of stoppage and the other four fights were won via unanimous decision.
Again, he made adjustments early to thwart his opponent’s stance. In this case, Mayweather has sought the assistance of two of those opponents (former Welterweight Champion Zab Judah and DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley) to work as sparring partners.
Another weapon Floyd uses to negate southpaws is his lead straight right hand, which boxing legend Teddy Atlas calls “the southpaw killer.”
Throwing a straight right from an orthodox stance could be suicide if you aren’t fast enough, but Floyd still has plenty of speed to use it to stop Pacquiao dead in his tracks as he comes in. If Mayweather times Pacquiao’s jab and moves his head slightly to the left, that straight right hand will land flush on Pacquiao’s beard.
Let’s also not forget Floyd Mayweather’s fondness of jabs to the body.
