10. Brian Clough, Nottingham Forest v QPR, 1989
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ABVVvPlr0 One of the most outspoken and unconventional managers of the pre-Premier League era was Brian Clough. Winning league titles with the un-fancied Derby County and Nottingham Forest, Clough's name always seemed to be the fans' choice as next England manager when a vacancy looked like opening up. That desire never materialised though as Clough spoke his mind to a degree that even in those times wasnt considered acceptable for a post where building relationships and being the face of English football was just as important as results on the pitch. No greater example of Clough's unusual behaviour is there than when, following a 5-2 win against QPR in the Littlewoods Cup, Forest fans invaded the pitch en-masse. Whilst the invasion itself has been forgotten, Cloughs spontaneous decision to act as judge, jury and executioner to any fans within a yard of his arm will live on as one of the most entertaining acts by a manager on a football field but not one expected by a potential leader of the national team.
