Chelsea's decision to sell Romelu Lukaku to Everton could go down as one of this summer's biggest transfer mistakes, however. The Blues accepted a £28 million bid from the Toffees at the end of July, bringing to an end the striker's three-season stay at Stamford Bridge. That stay was punctuated with loan moves to West Brom and Everton, and though Lukaku wasn't handed the opportunities to impress in west London, he did excel during each of his temporary spells away from the club, scoring 17 and then 15 goals for Albion and the Toffees in 2012-13 and 2013-14, respectively. And that makes Chelsea's decision to sell look like a mistake. Especially as they are currently struggling in the striker department. Demba Ba has left and joined Besitkas, Samuel Eto'o was released at the end of his contract and Fernando Torres continues to flounder. Torres endured the biggest goal-drought since the beginning of his career last season, netting a paltry five goals, yet the Blues continue to insist on standing by him while moving prolific players such as Lukaku on. Had Chelsea not lavished £50 million on Torres to make him a British transfer record in 2011, owner Roman Abramovich would surely have washed his hands of the misfiring star years ago, but is continuing to stubbornly refuse to accept he made a mistake in signing him from Liverpool. Meanwhile, Lukaku will probably go on to outscore the Spaniard yet again this season - but at one of Chelsea's top four rivals rather than at Stamford Bridge. Madness.
