Born in Murton, County Durham, Paul Kitson actually progressed through the youth ranks at Leicester City and broke into their first-team squad in 1989. A prolific move to Derby County followed before Kitson arrived in his native North East in 1995 for £2.25 million - and the exciting forward netted 10 goals in 36 league appearances during three years at St James' Park.
After proving a success at Newcastle, as part of the Kevin Keegan's Entertainers, he became adored by the Toon faithful. Kitson moved to various clubs, but most notably West Ham United in 1997 - where he stayed for five years. He scored 18 league goals in 63 appearances and became an east London favourite.
