Robin van Persie is another £225,000-a-weeks striker and plays for Aguero's Manchester neighbours United, whom he joined from Arsenal for an initial £22.5 million in the summer of 2012. United and City each did battle over the Dutchman two years ago but it was the Red Devils who won out after agreeing to pay RVP the aforementioned wages. Despite this, van Persie still isn't United's highest earner, amazingly, though considering he's still collecting a near-quarter-of-a-million quid each week he scarcely has room for complaint. The Netherlands international initially justified his massive wage demands by winning the Golden Boot award in 2012-13 by netting a blistering 26 goals in 38 appearances, but fell away somewhat with injury in his second campaign. Van Persie only made 21 Premier League appearances last term thanks to a succession of injuries, including one to his knee that forced him off on a stretcher in a Champions League clash with Olympiacos back in March. He was though still able to conjure up a semi-respectable return of 12 goals from those limited outings though, and when fit is one of the deadliest marksmen in the game.
