While many may deem it surprising that a player who has recently been called into the England ranks and who has netted seven Premier League goals thus far this campaign is on just £12,000 p/wk, Saido Berahino probably still cant quite believe his luck when he picks up his weekly pay cheque. Just a year ago, the Burundi-born 21 year old was on just £850 p/wk at West Brom. It was his first season at the Hawthorns, and he had been thrust into the Premier League limelight with the winning strike at Old Trafford in September 2013, so when the media caught wind of this incredibly low salary for a top-flight footballer, the spotlight shone even brighter. The Baggies ended up achieving survival last term, thanks in no small part to the youngsters five league goals, and he was rewarded with a significant pay rise - to a bumper £12,000 p/wk contract. While some may scoff and deem it a relative pittance compared to some of the other goal-getters in the Premier League - indeed, Diego Costa earns that in 10 hours - Berahino is probably quite happy with his lot.
