Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt was repeatedly linked with a move to Newcastle before he joined the Reds from Feyenoord back in 2006 - and the 104-cap Dutch international is someone who Wijnaldum cites as one of his "heroes". Having progressed through the Feyenoord youth ranks, Wijnaldum watched from the stands at Kuyt scored 71 goals in 101 Eredivisie games during his first spell at the club.
