20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever
18. Éder - Brazil Vs USSR (1982)
With the likes of Zico, Sócrates and Falcão it's amazing that the extraordinarily gifted Brazil team of the 1980s never even made it so far as the semi finals of a World Cup. They did, however, manage to give us a number of memorable moments along the way, few of them better than this 25-yard scorcher from left winger Éder.
The Seleção were level at 1-1 in Seville in their opening game of the 1982 World Cup against the Soviet Union. In the last minute of the game, however, this incredible goal seemed to come out of nowhere.
It began with Isidro on the right flank knocking the ball in to the playmaker Falcão. Rather than trying to lay the ball off, though, Falcão decided that the best creative move he could make was a cheeky dummy without even looking at what was going on around him.
This allowed Éder, steaming forward, to take one touch to chip the ball up onto his favoured left foot and a second to scream a powerful volley into the back of the net, while the Soviet goalkeeper, Rinat Dasayev, could only watch in amazement.
