20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever
17. Benjamin Pavard - France Vs Argentina (2018)
The reigning world champion French team is packed with hugely gifted goalscorers from Griezmann to Mbappé to Giroud. Of course, then, it would be a defender who had never previously scored an international goal who would be the one to net them the last World Cup's most memorable strike.
Two of the pre-tournament favourites clashed in the last-16 when France had to face Argentina after the latter were heavily beaten by Croatia in the group stage. The match, a seven-goal thriller, did not disappoint.
Early in the second half, with Argentina 2-1 up, France needed something special to turn the tide.
Left back Lucas Hernandez appeared to have over hit his cross as it passed by first Giroud, then Griezmann then Mbappé, but it fell to right back Benjamin Pavard who leaned back and struck it hard across the goal and into the far corner.
The equaliser put France on the path to winning the game and the trophy, while Pavard would be awarded 2018's Goal Of The Tournament.
