20 Best Rangers Players Of The Modern Era

4. Paul Gascoigne

The very definition of the phrase 'colourful character', Paul Gascoigne remains one of the most-talked about men in the footballing world. In more modern times, people speak about 'Gazza' because of his heavily reported troubles with alcohol, but there was a time when folks paid attention to the man because of his genius displays with a football at his feet. When it was announced that Rangers were signing Gascoigne in 1995, it was big news. A high-profile player for sure, Paul had failed somewhat to live up to his billing during his time with Lazio in Italy, but there were high hopes that he'd be able to produce his best form in front of 50,000 at Ibrox, and that proved to be the case. Even though he'd only spend 3 years at the club, Gazza was a hero the Rangers faithful, and it was never really all that difficult to see why. As passionate as they come, Gascoigne really cared about football, it was his life, and that reverberated onto the supporters, who cheered him as best they could. 39 goals in 105 appearances is a decent return from midfield, and a hat trick against Aberdeen to secure an eighth consecutive title in 1996 remains Paul Gascoigne's greatest ever Rangers performance.
