20 Key Things We Learned From Newcastle's Fans Forum Minutes

6. It's "Evolution" Not "Revolution" At Newcastle

Despite Steve McClaren stating that he wanted a new "culture of professionalism and respect", the Newcastle head coach was also keen to stress this would not happen overnight. McClaren's message is very much one of "evolution" and not "revolution", to borrow his own words. Vishal Vedhara, the Equality Representative, asked: "It's refreshing to hear about the new culture and that action is being taken." To which McClaren responded:
"You have a perception and an idea and previously I've gone for revolution and it hasn't worked. It's evolution and identifying what needs to be done. Every place needs something different so the last three weeks have been asking what this place needs and then trying to give it. "As staff we're here to help and we're telling the players that they'll improve, they'll be a better team for all fans to enjoy."
It's fair to say McClaren speaks well - he seems to have impressed just about every supporter at the Fans Forum. But words are only so much, he needs to deliver this "evolution" - and fast.
