7. Greece (1994)
Like many other World Cups, the 1994 finals were littered with surprise and upset results. Some of these included Bulgaria eliminating Germany, Saudi Arabia making it the Round of 16, and the Republic of Ireland beating Italy. One other surprise also came from Greece, but this was hardly a positive surprise.
Fans were stunned by a series of poor performances from the Greek side at the ‘94 World Cup, especially when you consider who they played. Drawn into Group D against Bulgaria, Nigeria and Argentina, fans were expecting Greece to make at least a top three finish. However, they were blown away by Argentina in the first game with 0-4 scoreline, before being battered 0-4 by Bulgaria and settling affairs with a 0-2 loss to Nigeria.
However, the humiliation of the 1994 World Cup wasn’t lasting as Greece ended up winning the 2000 Euros against all the odds, so you could say they won in the long run.
