25 Worst Premier League Signings Ever

2. Andrea Silenzi

Andrea Silenzi has the accolade of being known as the first Italian to play in the Premier League, it's also well known that he's regarded as one of the worst to boot. Signed by Frank Clark for £1.8m, Silenzi had a decent scoring record for Torino and Reggiana and was expected to take the Premier League by storm upon his arrival at the City Ground in 1995.

The Italian never took to the English game, only scoring twice against lowly Oxford and Bradford City in cup competitions, and halfway through his first season after losing his place to Jason Lee, was looking for a way out. After being loaned back to Italy at Venezia, he was asked to return from his spell by new Forest manager Dave Bassett; to which Silenzi outright refused.

On a massive £30,000 a week at the club, a staggering amount for any player at that time, Forest duly tore up his contract, and the first Italian to play in England's top division was never heard from again.
