25 Worst Premier League Signings Ever

23. El Hadji Diouf

After exciting as part of the excellent Senegal team that reached the quarter finals of the 2002 World Cup, there was a buzz around the air in Merseyside when Gerard Houllier parted with £10m for El Hadji Diouf. Capable of playing on either wing, or as an out and out forward, he was seen as that final spark that would push Liverpool to their first league title since 1990.

Diouf impressed in his first few games for the club, even scoring twice on his Anfield debut, but that is where his Liverpool career just about peaked. Reviled by his fellow team mates, he became more famous for his disciplinary record than his goalscoring, picking up fourteen yellows, one red card, and a ban for spitting at fans in his final season, he was offloaded to Bolton in 2004, where he would become a perennial journeyman throughout the rest of his career.
