5 Candidates For Spurs Captaincy If Michael Dawson Leaves

3. Emmanuel Adebayor

When Spurs needed goals last season - after Andre Villas-Boas had left Adebayor out in the cold for the first half of it - Tim Sherwood brought the Togo international back in to the first team picture and he delivered, becoming the club's top scorer despite playing less games than the majority of the team thanks to AVB's snubbing. On his day, Adebayor is unplayable, and it is a widely known fact that a manager needs to put a loving arm around him in order to get the best out of him - and what better way to do that than by giving him the captain's armband? It would show Adebayor the ultimate level of respect, ensure him that he's needed and wanted by the club, and give him a role as someone whose performances should be setting an example to the youngsters at White Hart Lane. Anything to get Adebayor's brilliant best out of him on a consistent basis can only be a good thing. Having been at the club since August 2011 (if you include his initial loan spell), he is actually one of the club's longest serving players and at 30 years old he should be both in his prime and the kind of senior player that other players look up to. Giving him a chance at captaining Tottenham Hotspur, whilst coming as something of a surprise, could be great for both him and the club.
