5 Greatest English Footballers Of All Time

2. Paul Scholes

11 Premier Leagues. 3 FA Cups. 2 League Cups. 2 UEFA Champions Leagues. 5 Charity/Community Shields. 1 Intercontinental Cup. 1 FIFA Club World Cup. Paul Scholes won it all with Manchester United, time and time again. The only blot on his list of achievements in the game is with regards to the England national side, for whom he often played well, but along with his team mates ultimately failed to deliver. In his early career he was a goalscoring midfielder, and as he got older, he dropped into a deeper-lying playmaker role. While most players suffer after a change of position, the red-haired Red Devil was better than ever. Zinedine Zidane considers Scholes the most complete footballer of his generation, and his only footballing regret was never having had the opportunity to play alongside him. Thierry Henry cited him as the player the famous Arsenal 'Invincibles' side feared the most. Xavi idolises him, and Lionel Messi said that Scholes is a 'teacher' at Barcelona's La Masia academy because his name is mentioned so often. An utterly amazing footballer.
