Once again mystifying as to why he was our sole, big £8 million purchase the summer after being a whisker away from beating Arsenal to a Champions League spot, Vurnon Anita's embarrassing display made for the usual frustrating viewing. Not that Newcastle have many options with so many injuries but if this was the last game we saw of him in a black and white shirt, it couldn't come soon enough. No clue what to do on or off the ball (if his first touch and passing accuracy are his big attributes, why does he keep giving the ball away so much?), Anita's lacklustre attempt to guard his post and clear Giroud's header off the line from the corner summed up his Premier League career so far. Grossly under-par and pathetic. Since we finished so close to topping Arsenal for that Champions League spot Wenger has signed the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck. Newcastle meanwhile have sold the likes of Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye whilst bringing in the likes of Anita and Emmanuel Riviere for big money. No wonder we are where we are and Arsenal are where they are.
