If Mike Ashley needed a wake up call in the stands that his side have a defence that could easily send his club into the Championship next season, Mike Williamson's non-performance against Olivier Giroud should be proof alone that money MUST be spent in that area in the summer. Completely inept from the first whistle, Williamson was outmuscled like a schoolboy against an adult for both goals the away side scored. The second of Giroud's soft finishers had to be the weakest defending the Gallowgate has seen in recent memory as the French forward did little more than play Williamson in his pocket and nod the ball home. Hopeless and completely out of depth at this level, Williamson must surely only be the team because we have nobody else. This must be rectified in the transfer window.
