Singled out by interim head coach John Carver as one of just two players who could be proud of their efforts during the embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Leicester City, Jack Colback again was industrious if unspectacular throughout the 1-1 draw with West Brom. Always willing to put himself about for the cause, Colback made six tackles and broke up play well. He stopped West Brom, who let's be fair weren't really looking to play any football anyway, from gaining a real foothold in the game by marshalling the midfield area. Colback didn't threaten the opposition goal but first and foremost he helped to end Newcastle's run of three consecutive matches where they conceded three goals. Yes one still got through, but Colback ensured Youssouf Mulumbu and Claudio Yacob could not settle in the middle of the park. The Magpies require greater quality than the former Sunderland man offers in order to remain in the Premier League - but you can be sure John Carver would snap your hand off for four or five more Jack Colbacks in the side.
