He still remains one of the most underrated players in his position, just in front of the back four controlling the tempo of the game, and United fans have been left in bewilderment for years as to why Carrick isn't regularly selected in the role for England. It is no coincidence that as soon as he returned to action at the back end of 2014 United's results picked up as well as their performances. He brought back a calmness to the Red Devils and his incisive passing brought the best out of his teammates. But now with him once again on the sidelines, United have started to stutter and although results are generally still going their way, the performances are looking shaky. For similar reasons to Blind, Carrick has all the qualities to break into Arsenal's starting XI as the Gunners simply don't possess anyone better in his position.
