5 Reasons Ross Barkley Won't Leave Everton For Manchester City

5. He Recently Signed A New Contract

If there was one thing that Everton did well this summer, it was committing their star players to new long-term deals, and Ross Barkley was chief among them. Barkley is only 20 years of age yet he signed a four-year contract in the summer, reportedly worth a huge £65,000 a week. When he announced his new deal at the Toffees, the youngster claimed he never thought of leaving Everton and signalled his desire to bring trophies and Champions League qualification back to Goodison Park. He also said the new contract meant everything to him because it is a dream to play for the club. Those are hardly the words of a player looking to leave. The more cynical will claim that Everton only gave him his contract so that they were safe in the knowledge he could not leave on the cheap, giving them greater power in any negotiations with potential buyers. That does not wash though, as manage Roberto Martinez is clearly planning for the long term future at the club, and the likes of Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, as well as defenders Seamus Coleman and John Stones are the types of players the Spaniard would like, and is planning to build a team for the future around. Barkley is arguably the diamond in Everton€™s crown and they would be very reluctant to lose such a jewel.
