The Portuguese club managed to reach the semi-finals of the competition last season before falling victim to the Bilbao attacking style. Their two matches which finished in a 4-3 aggregate score were two of the best of the year. Sporting have endured a very slow start to the season with two draws producing their only points to date. The club have one of the most famous academies in Europe - producing such players as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo, Nani and Spurs target Joao Moutinho and the team has plenty of future superstars. With some of the major teams focusing on young talent this may give them the advantage head-to-head. Rui Patricio has been one of the most impressive young keepers in Europe, Ricky Van Wolfswinkel has been scoring consistently since his arrival, Diego Capel caused many problems for teams down the flank last season and Zakaria Labyad has shown flashes of brilliance. Sporting started off with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Basel but their experience and ability means they should eventually pick up pace.
