1. Lots Of Undercard Drama
I can see why most people choose not to watch undercard fights as its hard to enjoy people you know nothing about and lots of the fights tend to be drawn out dull affairs as losing on the undercard can really kill off any MMA career. However luckily for those watching the UFC 164 undercard they were treated to some amazing fights with guys seeming trying to use the fact more people might be watching the prelims on the new channels to try and make their names known. Starting at welterweight the overall Fight of the Night bonus went to Pascal Krauss vs. Hyun Gyu Lim for their big hitting bout. Lim won the match as he did most of the big swinging but Krauss who trains in Milwaukee and with an 11-1 record is no push over. Lim however was amazing first he looked huge for 170 pounds his entire body ripped and he showed that mass has lots of power behind it slamming hard shots into Pascal wobbling him several times before a hard knee and a flurry of punches finished off the tough German. Ryan Couture had his fight changed from Quinn Mulhern to Al Iaquinta and Iaquinta was able to battle hard and came away with the unanimous judges decision. This leaves Ryan 0-2 in the UFC and in real danger of being cut of course the fact that his father and Dana White are once again angry and not speaking to each other doesnt help Jamie Varners road to redemption took a bump on Saturday, the former WEC lightweight champion was all but washed up several years ago yet has worked extra hard to bring himself back and had won 2 of his last 3 fights. Gleison Tibau the long-time Brazilian lightweight picked up the win over Varner by split decision which probably came from Tibaus dominant second round in which he was on top of Varner for the entire round. Finally hometown boy Chico Camus got a huge reaction for his fight with Kyung Ho Kang which was a real battle and one of the highlight fights of the whole night full of action for the full 15 minutes. Camus came back strong in the third round after spending two rounds being taken down yet Kang did nothing when he had Camus down so when the judges awarded Camus the fight it was no real surprise but finding out one judge gave Camus all three rounds was yet another laughable dumb call from another judge at a UFC event. So did you watch the event, enjoy it would you want to see Pettis Henderson 3? Or Mendes Aldo 2? Comments welcome below
