50 Great Footballers Who Ruled 2012

30. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04)

After his difficult spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan, the move to Schalke appeared to have been a great success for Huntelaar, who was able to produce 29 goals in 32 league games for the club by the end of the 2011/12 season. Though his goalscoring has dried up slightly this year, his prowess in front of goal cannot be denied, and constant links to the Premier League refuse to die away. He may have only one big move left in him. FIFA 13 Rating - 85

29. Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Mats Hummel Alongside Piszczek at the heart of the German Champions defence is the towering presence of Mats Hummels, who has been likened to Franz Beckenbauer in the national team for his hard-hitting tackles mixed with his tendency to start attacking moves for his team. A young defender with plenty of time to develop further, he will probably have to work very hard to keep Per Mertesacker out of the national side. Actually, he probably just has to turn up. FIFA 13 Rating - 85

28. Ramires (Chelsea)

Chelsea had a brilliant 2012, becoming the European Champions for the first time in their history. While most of the rest of the year was inconsistent at best, the shining star in my view was the tireless Brazilian midfielder Ramires. He has quickly gotten used to the pace and the aggression of English football, and has risen to the level of a first name on the team sheet. The future of Chelsea is likely to be secure at his feet, and Brazil should be looking forward to his inclusion at Brazil 2014. FIFA 13 Rating - 81

27. Arturo Vidal (Juventus)

Arturo Vidal Arturo Vidal is nicknamed "The Warrior" for a reason, as the versatile box-to-box midfielder, who contributed 7 league goals and 3 assists for the Scudetto's Serie A victory. As part of the three-man midfield that proved to be effective both as a creative and pressurising force, Vidal has become a great player in Italian football, with the hard defending providing an atmosphere he has thrived in. FIFA 13 Rating - 84

26. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan/Paris St Germain)

Zlatan Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have gotten onto this list on the strength of his goal for Sweden against England in November, but even more than that is his goalscoring talents in general. When he is on form, there is very little that defenders can do to stop him. For both Milan at the start of the year, to now at PSG where he has scored 19 goals in his first 18 league games. The game of football sometimes seems to easy for him, and now he is not letting that make him complacent anymore. FIFA 13 Rating - 88
