6 Big Deals Newcastle United Are Currently Working On

5. Alexandre Lacazette

Nigel French/EMPICS SportNigel French/EMPICS SportClub: Lyon Having already seen one primary target - Pierre-Michel Lasogga - sign for Hamburg after receiving a better offer, Newcastle might well have suffered a significant set-back in their attempt to sign Lyon's striker Alexandre Lacazette, who has been linked to the club for the majority of the summer so far. The player's agent has said that "if Alexandre were to leave, he would leave for a team which plays in the Champions League, or at least one which is very close to it" which clearly throws something of a spanner in the works. Or it would, if it wasn't for the curious arriving words of Siem De Jong, who boldly stated that his new side would be aiming for the Champions League. Does he know something about Newcastle's recruitment policy that we don't know? Are Newcastle selling the club to potential new recruits on the back of atypical ambition?

Either way, interest in Lacazette has not waned, particularly with the club looking to bring in two strikers before the start of the season, and if Siem De Jong can be convinced of grand plans, then surely so too can the ambitious Frenchman.
