In 2012, prior to Brendan Rodgers appointment as manager, Juventus were showing interest in the Uruguay international, and after an indifferent season, Luis Suarez was weighing up his options. It was at this point Rodgers, before officially becoming the new manager, had phoned the striker and convinced him to stay.

Suarez claimed in his autobiography that the former Swansea manager had called him and spoke to him in Spanish about what his plans were for the side, claiming they would play with the ball on the ground. Suarez went on to score 30 goals for Liverpool that season, and then 31 the year after, which lead to sealing a £75 million move to Barcelona in 2014.
