2. The Passion
David Beckham's passion and love for the game is clearly for all to see. No one works harder to boost the global image of football and no one would want to win Gold at this years Olympics more than Beckham. Captaining the team, Beckham would have ensured all 11-men on the pitch wanted to win as much as he did. Without him there is a real concern that the desire simply won't be there. Many of the players in the squad are likely to be preoccupied with the upcoming Premier League season and breaking into first team squads. We now live in a world where most Premier League sides are dominated by mid-twenty foreign imports who have already proven themselves and command huge fees, for British youngsters it is becoming harder to work their way into teams and the Olympics is likely to be a distraction from this ultimate goal. This is definitely a mindset Beckham could have helped direct them away from and focus on winning Gold.
