7 Awesome Football Transfers You Might Have Missed This Summer
5. Stefan De Vrij (Inter)

Let's step away from the UK for a second.
Inter Milan, who have been busily trying to rekindle former glories and become an Italian powerhouse again, have just pulled off quite the coup by stealing 26-year old Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij from Lazio for absolutely nothing. The Netherlands international has put pen-to-paper on a five year deal.
If this doesn't seem like a big scoop, then consider how far Inter have fallen over the past eight years since beating Bayern Munich 2-0 in the 2010 Champions League final. That, aside from winning the 2011 Coppa Italia, was the club's last major honour.
Things are beginning to move in the right direction again however. Inter finished fourth in Serie A last season (beating Lazio 3-2 to do so), qualified for the Champions League as a result and have now signed someone who was a rival team's stalwart for four years.
Lazio fans must be fuming at this business. In that 3-2 game, which cost I Biancocelesti a lucrative European place, de Vrij (who was already linked with a move) gifted Inter a penalty by hacking down Mauro Icardi.
