7 Players Left Out Of Newcastle's USA Squad - What's It Mean For Their Futures?

2. Paul Dummett

The player with the least to worry about on this list, Paul Dummett is very much a part of Newcastle United's future plans.

Having picked up a knock in training last week, Dummett sat out the 1-0 victory over Gateshead and he has not travelled to the USA either in order to ensure he does not aggregate his injury further.

A dependable if unspectacular left-back, Dummett also proved his worth by admirably filling in at centre-half last season during Newcastle's defensive injury crisis. Versatility is a trait that is admired by the Magpies hierarchy, and that's something Dummett certainly has.

What's more, the Wales international is also Geordie born and bred, meaning he is a valuable and rare commodity. Being a homegrown player who rose up through the club's academy, Newcastle are keen to hold on to Dummett and it is expected that he will be offered a new long-term contract soon - as well as potentially being handed the No 3 shirt vacated by Davide Santon's departure.
