8 Best Newcastle United One-Season Wonders

8. Abdoulaye Faye

Season with NUFC: 2007/08 Appearances: 28, Goals: 1 Sam Allardyce raided former employers Bolton to sign Faye for a relative bargain fee of £2 million shortly after taking over at Newcastle with the defender eventually arriving at St James' Park on transfer deadline day in 2007. And Faye proved to be one of the few success stories of Allardyce's ill-fated forays into the transfer market before he was replaced by Kevin Keegan after just nine months in charge at St James' Park. The Senegal international cemented his position in the centre of our defence under both managers with a string of composed performances and scored his only goal for the Club in a crushing defeat at Manchester United in February. Keegan allowed Faye to join Stoke in the summer ahead of the 2008/09 season and he would come back to haunt later in the campaign when he popped up to score an equaliser for the Potters in a 2-2 draw at St James'.
