The 2011/12 season was always going to be a historic one for 'Italy’s girlfriend'. It marked the grand opening of Juve’s brand new stadium – the aptly-named Juventus Stadium – as fans welcomed a brand new manager in former club captain Antonio Conte and saw legendary Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo join the squad. It was also the year in which Juventus claimed their first Serie A title in nine years - without enduring a single loss.

It wasn’t the handsomest invincible season, with 23 victories and 15 draws just enough to see off AC Milan in the race for the trophy – winning the league by just four points and only clinching the title during the penultimate game of the season. The Old Lady’s only domestic defeat that season came during the Coppa Italia final at the hands of Napoli, leaving them one victory short of an elusive undefeated double.

Though the 2011/12 season will no doubt go down in history as one of the Italian giants’ greatest ever, it will also be remembered bittersweetly. After 19 seasons, 513 appearances and 208 goals, Alessandro Del Piero left the club on a high.
