1. John Bostock
Adam Davy/EMPICS SportThe career of John Bostock has been a deeply disappointing affair thus far. Yet another player to have emerged from Palaces academy, Bostock who was just 16 at the time was regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in English football in the summer of 2008. Bostock made his league debut with Palace on October 29th 2007 at the ridiculously tender age of only 15 years and 287 days, making him Palaces youngest player ever. It was the handful of performances he gave in the 2007/08 season under the management of Neil Warnock which attracted the interest of Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur. In highly controversial circumstances surrounding the price, Bostock made the move to the north London club. In typically brash fashion, then-Palace chairman Simon Jordan said that he was so disgusted with Bostock that he intended to revoke the season ticket the midfielder had bought for the 2008/09 season (Bostock and his step-father were still fans). Simon Jordan would surely have been pleased with how calamitously Bostocks career at Spurs would be. After spending five years at White Hart Lane, the youngster made only four appearances as a substitute and went on loan to five different clubs. The highly touted prospect would have been far better off sticking with Palace and getting some more playing experience. John Bostock now resides at Royal Antwerp, a second division Belgian club managed by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Bostock may now play with this fairly humble club but it must be remembered that the man who played with the Eagles way back in 2007/08 is still only 22. Hopefully Bostock can reignite his career and become the player who everyone thought he could be five years ago.
