Rose has made it clear that he is willing to leave Tottenham Hotspur to further line his pockets and improve his chances of winning major trophies.

In a frank interview with The Sun, the Yorkshireman criticised Tottenham’s lack of ambition in recruitment and their circumspect wage structure. He also committed to returning to play in the north and commented on Jose Mourinho’s transfer plans, basically issuing a come and get me plea to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have started the season in the style of potential champions, winning their three opening games without conceding a goal. But left-back may be one area of concern for Mourinho, with Rose, voted into the PFA Team of the Year for two seasons running, a definite step up on Daley Blind.

The England defender would at least double his pay with United, who won three trophies last season, so wouldn’t need persuading to go to Old Trafford despite it being Spurs and not United who have challenged for the title the past two years.

Whether Spurs can be persuaded is another matter entirely. They have already sold Kyle Walker to a title rival this summer. Letting Rose go would be a poor message to send ahead of their own endeavor for Premier League glory.
