Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola did most of his business early in the summer window and wants to finish with a flourish by bringing in Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean only has one year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and has become visibly disgruntled at Arsenal’s failure to challenge for the Premier League or Champions League in his three seasons in North London.

He would jump at the chance to reunite with his former Barcelona manager at City, but Arsenal letting him go would signal the surrender of their title hopes.

If their early-season results have raised doubts already about their capability of being in the mix come May, selling Sanchez, who scored 24 league goals last season, would leave them with no chance of ending their 13-year title drought.

In contrast, his arrival would strengthen City’s position as championship favourites. He is a world-class player and a proven Premier League commodity who could help Guardiola outgun the rest of the title contenders.
