All Newcastle's South Americans Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Faustino Asprilla (Colombia)

Newcastle United: 1996-97 Position: Forward Nationality: Colombian Premier League Appearances: 59 Premier League Goals: 18 International Caps (Goals): 57 (20) There has never been another player quite like Faustino Asprilla who has pulled on a black-and-white shirt - or any shirt, for that matter. Signed for £6.7 million from Parma by Kevin Keegan in February 1996, Asprilla famously arrived on Tyneside in a fur duffel coat during a snowstorm. The gangly striker produced some truly memorable moments at Newcastle - including netting a hat-trick against Barcelona in 1997 - but he was also (unfairly) accused of destabilising Keegan's "Entertainers" side and preventing them from winning the Premier League in 1995-96. A man with a unique personality, Asprilla could wow with his skills and ability on the football field - and the 57-cap Colombian netted 18 Premier League goals in 59 appearances for the Magpies. Capable of brilliance, Asprilla will feel he could have achieved a little more on Tyneside, however.
